As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the ability to communicate effectively across cultures and languages is more important than ever before. For Chinese vocational college students, mastering English and being able to share their unique perspectives are crucial for success in today’s globalized world.
This textbook is crafted with the aim of assisting Chinese vocational college students in honing their English language skills and fostering their capacity to share their insights about China with the world. It is the fruit of a unique collaboration with AI (Artificial Intelligence), with the author and AI engaging in conversations that have contributed to the conceptualization and design of this book. As a comprehensive learning resource, this book is both informative and engaging, with a focus on enhancing students’ English language skills and ability to convey their understanding of China to a global audience.
The editing approach of this textbook is based on the principles of communicative language teaching, which emphasizes the importance of real-world communication and the integration of language and culture. The textbook aims to provide students with practical language skills that they can use in daily situations. Meanwhile, they can have a deeper understanding of Chinese culture, history, and society.
Our hope for this textbook is that it will inspire students’ creativity and critical thinking, and encourage students to explore and analyze Chinese culture from a variety of perspectives. By learning the history, traditions, and values of Chinese society, students will be better equipped to share their knowledge with the world and engage in meaningful cross-cultural communication.
Our textbook is structured into 10 units. Each unit focuses on a different topic, including text to introduce the topic, multiple choice practice to test comprehension, brainstorm to encourage discussion and critical thinking, a learning project to apply the knowledge learned, specific learning tips to provide guidance on content and language, and further reading guidance through Mind Map exercises for deeper understanding and application of the topic.
Each unit is designed specifically to help Chinese vocational college students learn and apply English. We aim to provide engaging and interactive content to make learning English enjoyable and relevant for students.
